Nihao (
knee-how). The first word in Mandarin I ever learned, thanks to
Warda. It means 'hello.' *smiles* But my real first lesson in Chinese began today. I thought we'd be learning the alphabet or its sounds. We kinda did, but mostly Lesson 1 focused on the tones: the flat mark (-), the falling accent (), the rising accent () and the falling and rising mark which looks like a (v) over the letter--you'll just haveta envision that one. It's kinda cool; the author even shows the pronunciation above the word to help you.
Dad brought home this email today which is kinda cute. These questions remind me of a child's insatiable curiosity. Some were a no brainer and/or dumb so I skipped them. Enjoy.
