So, today I bring you tidbits of Disney trivia. Courtesy of Tidbits newsletter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The high, squeaky voice of Mickey Mouse in his first cartoons was produced by the little rodent's creator, Walt Disney. Although 1928's Steamboat Willie was thefirst cartoon to use synchronized sound, it wasn't the first Mickey Mouse cartoon but the third. When the dog Pluto was introduced in the 1930 short film The Chain Gang, he was Minnie Mouse's dog and his name was Rover. We all know the names of the seven dwarves as Sleepy, Sneezy, Doc, Grumpy, Dopey, Happy and Bashful. What if the little men had been given some of the other names considered when the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was written--Blabby, Gabby, Gaspy, Gloomy, Hoppy, Jumpy, Nifty and Shifty? Although 25 songs were written for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, only eight were used in the film. Cinderella was one of the top-grossing films of 1950, grossing $4 million at its initial release. The animators of 101 Dalmations drew 6,469,952 little black spots while creating the cartoon puppies. Disney began "fairy tale" films with the scence of a large storybook opening. This remained Disney's style until 1973 when Robin Hood was the last film to feature the storybook. Nearly 40 "Herbies" were created during the production of The Love Bug. The movie was based on a Gordon Buford story entitled, rather simply, Car-Boy-Girl and was the highest-grossing film in America the year it was released. The producer of The Love Bug decided on number 53 to be emblazoned on Herbie's hood because he was seeing "lots of 53s on television," including the number on the uniform of Los Angeles Dodger Don Drysdale.
