Once In a Lifetime
08-06-2004 E 5:09 p.m.
On one of his visits to me, when I was still going to school in Poky, Michael downloaded an Anime music video to my computer. The clips are poignant moments from the movie El Hazard and the song is Once In a Lifetime by Sarah Brightman. I loved it so much I kept it on my system, viewing it ever so often. Combined with the clips and what Mike told me of the movie, the song seems to speak of someone so very lost, so very alone and in need of light in their dark world. But alas, when my computer crashed and had to be redone I lost it.

That was maybe a year ago. I hadn't really thought of it or had the desire to view it--until recently. I dunno why, but that video's been on my mind a lot since Saturday or Sunday. I even tried finding it to redownload, but no such luck. The best I can do is give you the lyrics--and try to find the CD for myself:

Once In a Lifetime
Cuando anochezca
Te esperare
Quiero volverte loco esta noche
Con la luna llena
Te esperare
Hoy moriras entre mis brazos
Nunca sonaras de mi aun igual

When the darkness falls
I will wait for you
I want to drive you crazy tonight
With the full moon
I'll wait for you
Tonight you'll die in my arms
You never dreamt of anything like

Let me dive in
To pools of sin
Wet black leather on my skin
Show me the floor
Lay down the law
I need to taste you more

Then I feel your sea
Raining down on me
Can this be my once in a lifetime
Hell's at heaven's door
As I need you more
You know you're my once in a lifetime

Todo tu cuerpo temblara
Pero esta ves, es realidad
Aunque el tiempo pase
Nunca
Nunca me olividaras
Sera
Solo una ves en tu vida

Your whole body will tremble
But this time is reality
Though the time will pass
You'll never, never forget
It will be only once in your life

When you take me
And make me cry
Then I feel you satisfy
Show me the cage
It's all the rage
And lock it up

Found a part of me
That's a mystery
That will be just once in a lifetime
When the moon is high
Passion never dies
Will you want me for all a lifetime?

Once in a lifetime
Once in a lifetime
Once in a lifetime

Giving you my soul
Letting you control
Took away a part of my lifetime
Memories of you
Left me black and blue
Now I know you're once in a lifetime

Then I feel your sea
Raining down on me
Can this be my once in a lifetime
Hell's at heaven's door
As I need you more
You know you're my once in a lifetime

Found a part of me
That's a mystery
That will be just once in a lifetime
When the moon is high
Passion never dies
Will you want me for all a lifetime?

Then I feel your sea
Raining down on me
Can this be my once in a lifetime
Hell's at heaven's door
As I need you more
You know you're my once in a lifetime

Found a part of me
That's a mystery
That will be just once in a lifetime

Sarah Brightman

Alone the lyrics are dark, I know. Dark and seductive and hopeless...almost. The refrain is really the only source or mention (hint) of hope or redemption. You really need the entire thing (music and the video clips) together to get the true impression.

*pauses and thinks on how best to explain this next part* Life is so ironic or coincidental at times. My craving or desire to see this video again stemmed from a sudden memory of it. All I remembered was the video and the melody of the song. And, of course, the catch phrase, Once in a lifetime. But it was a disconcerting shock, somewhat, to read the lyrics. I had forgotten, or hadn't been totally aware, of all the lyrics. But they fit with my mood of late, with what's been going on in my head. I want my once in a lifetime; I want my redemption. I am a light to someone in their darkness, I just hope I can be enough of one while their's is struggling to glow ever more brightly.
