Forever Changed
09-11-2002 E 4:22 p.m.
One year ago today. One year ago I was coming out of the bathroom from getting ready for school; Mom was in a state of shock, rambling on about one of the Twin Towers being hit by a plane. It was like a twisted fairy tale, only without the fairies and royalty. Or the happy ending. I watched stunned, with unbelieving eyes as the North Tower crumbled into a pile of rubble. Minutes later I watched a second plane plow into the second tower, mouth dropping open. The horrible sight made my heart lurch and skip a beat.

One year ago I shed tears for faceless heroes and victims who lost their lives in a barbaric act. Today I shed several more in remembrance and sorrow for the families who lost loved ones that day.

Two years ago 9/11 was just another day. I don't remember what I was doing or where I was. A year ago, if it weren't for that act of terrorism it would still be only just another day even now. But because of hatred against a nation which has aided many others, today will never be ordinary again.

All Bin Laden's followers did was make martyrs and heroes out of those who died innocently and strengthen our country's patriotism. They gave us another day to remind us of who we are and to commemorate that memory.

A great step towards independence is a good-humored stomach, one that is willing to endure rough treatment.
~Lucius Annaeus Seneca~

This may seem a bit out of context with patriotism and the sacrifice of lives, but I thought since we are waging war on terrorism for independence from it, it kinda fit.
