A Prayer of St. Patrick
03-17-2005 E 8:43 p.m.
St. Patrick's Day: the Luck o' the Irish and the Wearin' O' the Green. Spring is springing, and I'm getting the fever.

Though St. Patrick's Day is a minor holiday around here and more fun for the kiddies, I enjoy it too. I guess it's my inner kid. *crooked smile* I still dress in green and try to (sometimes) pinch any unsuspecting victim who forgot or chose not to participate in the fun.

Gwen, my new friend, sent me a prayer of St. Patrick's, which I thought was cool. So I've been saving it for today.

Prayer of St. Patrick
I take for my sureties:

The power of God to guide me,
The might of God to uphold me,
The wisdom of God to teach me,
The eye of God to watch over me,
The ear of God to hear me,
The word of God to give me speech,
The hand of God to protect me,
The way of God to go before me,
The shield of God to shelter me...
Christ be with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

~St. Patrick

Isn't that beautiful? I love almost all things Irish. Ever since I discovered Ireland's a part of my heritage, I've gotten interested in its culture, legends, language and people. I even have a calendar of the Irish countryside with sayings in my room. Have any of you ever read or recited blessings or proverbs from this mystical country? They're lyrical! They have a rhythm to them and you can almost hear the brogue in the words as you read them aloud. I love the sayings; they're warm and optimistic and full of friendship and good cheer. Ireland is definitely a country alive with history, passion, beauty and wonder. Is it any wonder I wish to visit?
There are good ships, and there are wood ships, the ships that sail the sea. But the best ships are friendships, and may they always be.
~Irish Proverb~
