Alchera Project: Love On the Rocks

Feeling-- hungry
Reading-- Exposure by Dee Davis
I'm grateful for-- my freedom, for living in America

Ah...October's over. No more stress due to a busy schedule. No more looming deadlines for my mother--for when she's frazzled, eeevvveerrryyyone feels it. Just like the saying, "When mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." So, yes, I'm glad to see October go, and I welcome the calm, unruffled, grateful month November appears to be. At first glance; we'll see how it progresses.

And with the changing of the month, The Alchera Project has a new edition for its members to have fun with. Option No. Five is now A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words. We can write anything inspired by this photo:

Love On the Rocks
Love on the rocks
Ain't no surprise
Pour me a drink
And I'll tell you some lies
Got nothin' to lose
So you just sing the blues all the time

Gave you my heart
Gave you my soul
You left me alone here
With nothing to hold
Yesterday's gone
Now all I want is a smile

First, they say they want you
How they really need you
Suddenly you find you're out there
Walking in a storm
When they know they have you
Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You've got to leave, just get away
We all know the song

You need what you need
You can say what you want
Not much you can do
When the feeling is gone
May be blue skies above
But it's cold when your love's on the rocks

First, they say they want you
How they really need you
Suddenly you find you're out there
Walking in a storm
When they know they have you
Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You've got to leave, just get away
We all know the song

Love on the rocks
Ain't no surprise
Pour me a drink
And I'll tell you some lies
Yesterday's gone
And now all I want is a smile

Neil Diamond and Gilbert Becaud

This song was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the above pic. Love on the rocks... Life is cold and gray when the bright flame of love gutters in the rising wind before a coming storm. The pieces of your heart lie upon the rocks at your feet, and the once calm sea stirs restlessly, its waves building higher and higher and then come crashing down hard as the storm moves in closer. You watch, motionless, with tears blurring your vision, as the broken pieces that once harbored all your hopes and dreams for your love and you are carried away before sinking, silently and mournfully, beneath the stormy black waters.

Shoving wind-tossed locks of your hair out of your face, you wonder to yourself, Is it really better to have loved and lost than not to have known love at all? Right then, at that moment, your heart cries out, "No! It hurts too much!"

But your mind, the logical part of yourself, counters with, "Yes it is. The pain will go away eventually, and if you're completely honest with yourself, you know he's touched your life in a good way. Though you want to deny it, wish you'd never met him, you can't. He's shown you what strength you had hidden away inside. He's shown you you aren't as jaded as you thought were. He's awakened your senses to Mother Nature's beauty and her wonders. With all these gifts, you can't wish things undone. You're a better person now."

You're a better person now. Small comfort for the nearly overpowering ache spreading through your body, originating from the hole that once housed your heart. Turning your back on the storm-tossed sea, you swipe at your tears with a knuckle, unable now to tell a difference between them and the rain that has begun to fall. Hurrying to your car, you get in, start the engine, turn on the heater and drive away... Leaving behind the pieces of a broken heart.

Life is cold and gray when the bright flame of love gutters in the rising wind before a coming storm. But remember, where there's a dark cloud there's a silver lining. All storms pass, the sky clears and the sea calms and becomes serene yet again. New love will find its way to you and bring happiness and make your heart whole again.
