Hawaiian Fantasy
04-04-2004 E 5:51 p.m.
I intended to do P-O-Y last week, but with the disruption of our Internet service it fell by the wayside. So, here is last week's P-O-Y and today's second entry.

If you could do absolutely anything at all, right now, what would you do?

I'd stop fantasizing about a tropical vacation and possible romance in Hawaii and make it a reality. For a while now, when the going gets tough, both Heather and I have joked about packing it up and taking a plane to a tropical paradise or even Scotland. (Hey we're suckers for that Scottish burr.)

In fact, part of my fantasy is a romance with a Scotsman--a Highlander. I know, a Scotsman in a tropical paradise is somehow incongruous(?). But hey, he could be on vacation just as well.

The romance is optional, but no matter what, I'd enjoy the exotic flower scented, balmy air, the Polynesian culture and people, the white sandy beaches edged by the bluest waters my eyes have ever laid sight on. During the day I'd loll on the beach in a beach chair for a while with a big floppy hat for shading my eyes and a good slathering of sunscreen/suntan oil to protect me from those harmful UV rays. I'd a have a must-read book in my hands and be wearing my newest and cutest swimsuit. Though I wouldn't stay out too long; I'd be careful of how much sun I'd get and then I'd go sight-seeing. I'd see the lush, verdant and beautiful landscape of whatever Hawaiian island I happen to be on, making sure I have new batteries in my camera and lots of film. I'd also go see any historical sites important to that island before returning to my hotel for a mouthwatering, scrumptious dinner and the nightly entertainment.

I'd dress up in the beautiful yet costly deep purple pantsuit I bought just for this trip. I'd go down to the hotel's adjoining restaurant and be escorted to a table. The food would be unforgettable--not for the price alone--and the entertainment fun, exciting and highly enjoyable.

Then I'd look up between acts and our eyes would meet. There, at a table some distance away, a good-looking gentleman looks my way and his lips quirk in a cute lopsided smile. I return the smile shyly and blush a bit. He gets up and threads his way between tables to mine.

"A wonderful night, isn't it?" He inquires.

To my delight the lilting cadence of a Scottish burr caresses my ears as he speaks. My eyes light up and my heart does a flipflop.

"Yes," I say, trying hard to appear composed and trying to hide the fact I'm melting inside just at his accent.

I invite him to sit down and by the evening's end, after a walk in the hotel's beautiful and exotic garden, I know I want to get to know him better. He is kind and funny, intelligent and mannerly. A sort of magic has weaved its spell upon us under a velvet night sky studded with thousands of diamond bright stars.

But as always the fantasy ends there as reality intrudes once again, pulling me back relentlessly to the here and now...

I'm not suffering from insanity. I'm enjoying every minute of it!
