1) First buy a clear plate and any holiday fabric you want to put on it. Get enough fabric so you can have an inch of fabric all around the plate.
2) Turn the plate over and apply a thick coating of mod podge to the base.
3) Then place the front side of the fabric on the plate and run your fingers over it so the mod podge soaks in and you can get rid of the bubbles.
4) Apply a second coat to the bottom again and smooth. This acts as a sealant.
5) Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the sides of the plate.
6) Trim the excess fabric off to the edge of the plate. Look for any bubbles and smooth them out if need be by applying mod podge to the spot and rubbing. You can also apply glitter to the mod podge if there isn't any in the fabric if you want. Glitter really makes it look festive.
That's what we did this morning. Our visiting teachers came over to teach Mom and I how to do these and it was a blast. I did two small ones and Mom did a large one and a platter. One of mine has a pale blue background with gold glitter and is patterned with hearts, smowmen, snowflakes and mittens. The other is pine green with gold glitter and santa hats filled with holly, gifts, ornaments and candy canes. Both are equally pretty. However, to clean them just sponge the glass. Or spot clean the fabric. They make great gifts, and a great decorative accent for any holiday candy.
LOL Gees, I sound like a bad imitation of a reviewer for a craft magazine. Oh wells. The project is worth doing though.
I watched Arsenic and Old Lace today. I'm feeling Halloweenie, more so than last year. I'm really getting into the "monsters" and legends of Saimhain or Halloween. Hey Foursheep, if we were closer geographically we could celebrate together iffin you liked. I think it would be fun to celebrate Saimhain the traditional way or whatnot.
I can't wait to dress up. Kami's agreed to help with the make up and hair. Even it's only to watch movies after homework and treat trick-or-treaters, I'm gonna dress up as an illegal alien. Heheh. Aubree wanted to dress Egypt up. Um...no.
You know, whether cats are big or small, tamed or wild, they all have the same hunting instincts. This afternoon while Mom and Dad were out I let Egypt in. Pretty soon he was by the french doors here in the back. He slowed and crouched down, biding his time till he'd pounce. I followed his locked gaze and found what he was tracking. A fly in between the blind slats. He crept closer, closer...waiting.
The fly was stupid enough to walk onto an open space of the glass in the door. Egypt pounced. He knocked it to the carpet. There he batted at it and trapped it under his paws. It got away twice, but Egypt followed and...the fly never stood a chance. Egypt killed it. Yessir, a true hunter. Just like his bigger, wilder cousins.
